Rick Goldschmidt is back from his trip to Bermuda for Arthur’s 90th Birthday party and MASTERWORKS MUSEUM OF BERMUDA ART opening honoring Arthur Rankin, Jr.. Rick gave a very nervous speech at the dinner party, but many thought it was heart felt. The Museum opening was wonderful and featured some of the ANIMAGIC figures from unproduced RANKIN/BASS TV specials. It also featured a full wall photograph provided by MISER BROS PRESS (Wes Garlatz and Rick). The wall photograph came from a RARE scrapbook that was purchased from Japan, just days after Arthur had passed (Special thanks to Dale Dunajtsik). It was the official records kept at DENTSU by RANKIN/BASS (Then known as VIDEOCRAFT INTERNATIONAL) and we will share the photos in an upcoming book and high quality prints.
This week, Rick was interviewed for Bermuda’s newspaper THE ROYAL GAZETTE and the article should appear sometime later in the week. MASTERWORKS plans on expanding ARTHUR’S GALAXY in December 2014 and possibly having Rick and Masaki Iizuka curate the new display. If you live in or visit Bermuda, don’t miss this wonderful display!
On July 25th, Rick gave a presentation at THE GOLDEN GLOW OF CHRISTMAS PAST at the Westin in Lombard, IL. , It was a wonderful gathering of Vintage Christmas enthusiasts and collectors. The presentation was followed by a book signing and dinner.
Rick was asked to speak at NOTRE DAME shortly after this event and the NOTRE DAME event is being planned for this holiday season. There will be a RANKIN/BASS GROUP ART SHOW at CREATURE FEATURES in Burbank, CA December 6th, that may prove to be the RANKIN/BASS event of the year! Many wonderful artists have already been confirmed and some ANIMAGIC guests are going to show up. If you would like to contribute to this art show, contact Rick Goldschmidt, Patrick Owsley, Wes Garlatz or Taylor White at CREATURE FEATURES.
On Saturday August 2nd, Rick appeared with many RANKIN/BASS Rarities at a book signing at AMAZING FANTASY BOOKS in Tinley Park, IL at 15948 Harlem Avenue. THE STARVING ARTISTS performed an acoustic set. Rick had all three of his books for purchase, including the GLOW/AF BOOKS edition of THE MAKING OF THE RANKIN/BASS HOLIDAY CLASSIC: RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER for Rudolph’s 50th Anniversary. This edition features a glossy cover and it matches the MAD MONSTER PARTY book in size and quality and will soon be available at miserbros.com
